Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Skirt, L
Vintage Yves Saint Laurent pencil skirt. I believe in buying the best quality for basics, and this piece is on my list of "must haves". Made of heavy fabric, lined and in a classic shape. This skirt is a forever piece, designed by the master of Haute Couture, Yves Saint Laurent.
Rive Gauche was the first Ready-to-wear store of its kind in Paris when it opened in 1966. It was not merely a watered down version of haute couture, but was actually a place for Yves Saint Laurent to experiment and design freely. The inspiration of many haute couture collections came directly from his work for the Rive Gauche collections. It was also where the idea of wardrobe essentials was developed - this skirt being one of them - where basics could be mixed and matched. Before this, outfits were meant to be bought and worn head to toe as a cohesive look, allowing little room for personal style.
